Design Thinking Session at Krishnasamy College of Engineering and Technology

On August 28, 2024, Willdoo Education had the privilege of conducting a dynamic Design Thinking session at Krishnasamy College of Engineering and Technology, led by our Educational Mentor & Coordinator, Mrs. Nithya. This interactive session aimed to introduce students to the innovative problem-solving approach of Design Thinking, a vital skill in today’s rapidly evolving educational and professional landscape.

Design Thinking encourages creativity, critical thinking, and a structured yet flexible process to solve real-world problems. Mrs. Nithya led the students through a hands-on learning experience, fostering their ability to identify challenges and think outside the box to develop practical solutions.

The Session at a Glance:

  1. Identifying Problems: The session kicked off with students brainstorming various challenges they face in their personal, academic, and community lives. This stage focused on encouraging students to open up about issues they are passionate about solving. These ranged from environmental concerns to campus-related improvements.
  1. Selecting a Problem to Solve: Once the issues were identified, students were guided through selecting a particular problem to work on. The emphasis here was on focusing their creative energy on a manageable yet impactful challenge. Teams were formed based on their shared interests, sparking lively collaboration.
  1. Creative Problem-Solving: Mrs. Nithya, drawing on her extensive experience as an educational mentor, guided students through brainstorming potential solutions, using various design thinking tools such as mind maps and empathy maps. Each team worked on developing innovative solutions while keeping the end-user’s needs at the center of their approach.
  1. Prototyping and Feedback: The session ended with teams presenting their ideas and receiving constructive feedback from their peers and Mrs. Nithya. This step was crucial in helping students refine their solutions and understand the importance of iteration in the problem-solving process.
